Easy Strawberry Sauce

Jump to Recipe

This 3 ingredient easy strawberry sauce is a great quick way to make a simple dessert or breakfast more interesting. Use the sauce on ice cream, on a gluten-free pancake with banana and peanut butter or on my gluten-free peanut butter pancakes, gluten-free dairy-free banana bread, or my gluten-free dairy-free cinnamon swirl muffins. Dress up a plain, store bought cake, chocolate cream pie or cheese cake. This sauce will take less than ten minutes from start to finish and can transform the look and flavor of almost any dessert.

Strawberries – If you can, start with fresh local strawberries. They are usually the sweetest and most flavorful, If it’s not strawberry season, frozen strawberries are a good option. The “fresh” strawberries flown form the other side of the globe during the off-season can be flavorless. Cooking won’t be necessary with frozen strawberries. They will break down enough when thawed.

Sugar– Depending on the strawberries, you may want to increase the sugar by a teaspoon or 2 to get the sauce to the sweet level you prefer. Just taste when its cooked and add a little bit at a time if needed. Substitute sugar with your favorite sweetener. Agave, honey, coconut palm sugar and maple syrup are all excellent options for this easy strawberry sauce.

Lemon Juice – Lemon is a flavor enhancer and it works so well as a balance to the sweet sugar and strawberries in the sauce.

This easy strawberry sauce is a perfect topping for cheesecake, ice cream sundaes, and gluten-free waffles. Reduce it a little extra and fill your favorite gluten-free cupcakes. Fill gluten-free crepes with banana and strawberry sauce and top with chocolate sauce. Make gluten-free brownies a more elegant dessert by topping with warmed strawberry sauce and whipped cream.

Strawberry Sauce Variations

  • Strawberries go well with just about any citrus. So replace the lemon with lime, orange, tangerine or grapefruit.
  • Add other berries such as blackberries, blueberries and raspberries.

The 3rd photo, from back in 2015, was on my old blog. When I started to learn photography last year, I also launched a new blog & didn't want to post the recipe with that unappealing photo. I finally got around to a re-shoot & the recipe is back.

No food coloring or powdered sugar (no cane sugar No food coloring or powdered sugar (no cane sugar at all) was used in this Sweet Potato Frosting. Just sweet potato, cream cheese butter and maple syrup. Maybe using sweet potato in frosting sounds really weird to you, I think it is perfect. Link to the recipe for this creamy, dreamy frosting in my profile.

In my opinion most frostings are way too sweet. Using a naturally sweet base for frosting, means less added sugar. This frosting is just sweet enough and is perfect slathered on carrot cake, spice cake, vanilla cake or even chocolate cake.

Top it with just one or all 3 frostings for a neapolitan cupcake. The strawberry buttercream is flavored & colored with freeze dried strawberries. That chocolate cream cheese frosting is vegan and so creamy dreamy! The cream cheese frosting is just sweet enough for a chocolate, red velvet or carrot cake. My previous post links to these frosting recipes.

These frostings are just the right consistency for piping onto cupcakes or decorating a cake. I tried making vegan cream cheese frosting without the chocolate and it's yummy, but more like a runny icing. The gf, df cupcake recipe is coming very soon!

The key to a crispy pizza crust is high, DIRECT heat on your crust, just like the pizza ovens at your fav pizza place. This cast iron pan allows you to get that direct heat in your home oven. It's a little tricky with delicate gluten-free dough, but I worked out a method to make it easy.
